How often should we wash our hair?

So for a very long time I have been washing my hair weekly. I genuinely put my hair thickness and health down to this and would have classed it as one of my top tips. I believed that training my hair could help maintain the natural oils. I actually had a client years ago, I’ll never forget her, she washed her hair every 6 months and believed her hair was so amazing down to this. When I got pregnant and after having Sullivan my scalp got so oily and I stopped my weekly washes. I breastfed for 3 and a half years so it’s only now I’ve stopped and my hair is getting back to normal that I’m starting to think, shall I train my hair again or stick to a more frequent wash routine?

My main issue with washing more frequently is that I would apply more heat on my hair after washing. But I actually do love washing my hair weekly and the feeling of clean hair, so now I’m on a mission of figuring out what’s best. I’ve been reading more about the scalp and would love to become a trichologist, but let’s save that for another day.

To tackle my problems of adding more heat I’m going to try more heatless curl methods, but also using the hot brush is going to massively help as it reduces damage which can be caused from other styling tools.

I also saw a video explaining that frequent washes will actually maintain a clear scalp, free from dead skin cells and remove excess sebum. This in turn will promote a healthy scalp which is vital for the regrowth of the hair.

So whats best to do? Weekly wash or more or less frequent washes? If I’m being honest I think lifestyle and hair type means this is different for everyone. But I definitely wont be beating myself up for washing my hair more! I’m interested in what works best for you?

With love,
